Field practiceCheck for loose paint, contamination, stains, repairs, moisture problems, and glossy or slick finishes before choosing a product.
Field practiceFor visible seams, my sequence is: prime, skim, sand, remove dust, then prime the entire wall before finishing. Skimming does not repair loose wallpaper. Inspect the test area for lifting or bubbling as well as adhesion before continuing.
Field practiceIf my check removes coating, I use a scraper to remove anything loose and follow the normal loose- and peeling-paint preparation process.
